Cocoa Puffs not up to snuff?

Back in the '60s man, this shit tasted dope!CerealBuzzer Tony Wisneske writes in to ask General Mills and his fellow cereal lovers about the current state of Coca Puffs…

I sent an email to General Mills about Cocoa Puffs that read the following:

“For the last couple years I’ve noticed a change in the taste of Cocoa Puffs cereal. And this is not a better change.

I’ve looked at older pictures of Cocoa Puffs boxes and noticed that they say they’re “made with Hershey’s Cocoa.” Have you stopped using Hershey’s chocolate? I looked at a box I recently bought and could not find Hershey’s name anywhere.

Or is there some other reason why the taste has changed? Have you reduced the amount of sugar from the recipe? Did you increase some of the vitamins to make it more healthy but less tasty?”

I just sent it so I haven’t had a reply back.
So what do you think? Am I crazy or did the taste really change? I remember last year I had
one box that tasted like it used to but then the next box tasted bad like it usually does nowadays.

So what do you think, boys and girls? Is Tony right? Do Cocoa Puffs taste more like Caca Puffs to you lately? Has their recipe changed for the worse? Is it true, Big G?

I have heard and read some articles about some high sugar cereals and advertising lately.
I think I read that some people are trying to ban advertisements (I think mostly on TV) of cereals with a high sugar content. That might be some of the changes You are tasting!
I think this might be the article about some of the changes -

“while the new cereals do have less sugar, the calories, carbohydrates, fat, fiber and other nutrients are almost identical to the full-sugar cereals. That’s because the cereal makers have replaced sugar with refined carbohydrates to preserve the crunch”

    Thanks for the article.
I noticed it was talking about cereals that label themselves as “75% less sugar!” and such. Of course those are going to taste different (I know that certainly was the case for Frosted Flakes) but I’m buying boxes that do not say they have reduced anything on them.
I still haven’t gotten a reply from General Mills :(

At least Waffle Crisp and Lucky Charms still taste the same ;)

As a long time cocoa puff fanatic I definitly concur that ever since they switched from using the Hershey’s chocolate the taste has gone way down hill.

    Its breaking my heart :/

Hello, I am doing a survey about Kellogg’s Frosted Mini Wheat and would just like to know how you and other people are thinking about it. This is for my Advertising/PR class. It would be nice if anyone who see this comment could help.
    THANKS

I used to be a cereal junky. Then the cravings went away for away. Lately, I started eating some of my favorite cereals again; and I concur. The tastes are definitely different and definitely not as good as they used to taste. I contribute this not only to the reduction in sugar but mainly to the use of whole grain. I’m starting to feel like we’re all being put on government-controlled diets. I wish they would stop messing with our food to force us to eat more healthly. There is plenty of health food out there for those concerned about what they put in their mouth. For the rest of us, leave the food tasting like food and not like we’re grazing out in the fields.

Yea… Ive noticed a change in coacoa puffs too. So instead of spending so much money on name brand anymore i just buy Cocoa Puffs in the big bags. save money and its still pretty dank. I often resort to Cocoa Pebbles too.
